Fast Girls Action

I've just been watching a brilliant film called Fast Girls about a twenty-two-year old athlete from the wrong sides of the tracks who qualifies for the 200 metres and is asked to join the relay team for the World Championships because of her speed.

Lenora Crichlow of Sugar Rush and Being Human fame plays Shania Andrews, an athlete who lives on an estate and is welcomed into the GB team by all, apart from one person. Her rival, Lisa (played by Lily James) is a girl from a privilege family whose father calls the shots on the team and is a bit peed off that Shania beat her in the trials. The two girls share one coach, Tommy (Noel Clarke) but Lisa gets her daddy to tell Shania that she cannot share the same coach with his daughter and must therefore find another. A bit peed off with the news, Shania goes back to her friend who had been coaching her just before she qualified and convinces him to coach her further until the World Championships.

At a party for the athletes the night before a race, Shania get a bit drunk on champagne (not a very good idea), has an argument with Lisa who puts her down in front of important people, storms off home and performs badly at the 200 metre race and the relay the next day as well as doing a lot of puking up. She then decides that running with others is not for her and that doing 200 metre race will do her just fine.

The two rivals continue to fight it out (Shania is seen as a troublemaker and kicked off the team after a fight with Lisa on the tracks after their shamble relay performance) but must then work with Lisa to make the team a success or it will all come tumbling down. There is also a cute physiotherapist (played by Bradley James - Merlin) who the two girls appears to be fighting over.

Fast Girls directed by Regan Hall and starring Lenora Crichlow, Lily James, Lorraine Burroughs, Dominique Tipper, Lashana Lynch, Bradley James, Noel Clarke (co-writer) and Ruper Graves, is a brilliant film with arguments, tears, rivalry, morals, a bit of love interest, good acting, teamwork and triumph.

Make sure you watch it!

Nicki Minaj - High School Sexy

When Nicki Minaj first came on the scene, I thought she going to be another Lil Kim - nasty with no class. But to my relief she wasn't. Although she can be explicit in some of her material, I think Nicki Minaj has more class than Lil Kim. And talking about Kim, I wonder what happened to her since that perjury court thing that landed her in jail for lying about a shooting?

True, Nicki has had some musical influence from Lil Kim and she has the boobs, the arse and big thighs to go with it but that's what a lot of men like - right? As well as rapping, the girl can sing and she's quite pretty, albeit with make-up, for a human Barbie. Well, one of her alter-ego is Harajuku Barbie, isn't it? So if I had to choose between Nicki Minaj or Lil Kim, well its obvious who I would choose!

So I decided to check out the video for Nicki's new single 'High School' featuring Lil Wayne taken from her Pink Friday...Roman Reloaded album uploaded on Vevo. By the way, have you noticed that Vevo seems to be getting really popular and a lot of artists are using this medium? You never know it might take over YouTube. Who would have thought YouTube would have a rival?

Anyway, 'High School' is a nice RnB/Hip Hop mix and the video has a storyline that I would likened to a Bonnie & Clyde scenario. You'll see when you watch it. It has a nice sexy sound that I would play to my man anytime. And I wouldn't mind looking as good as Nicki does in the video. The clothes she wears just works for her.

And Lil Wayne! I'm so sorry but I have to say this, but he has a funny face and nuff teeth when he smiles. Have you seen the amount of tattoos on his body - now I like tattoos although I wouldn't have any myself but it's just too much for me. But admittedly, he has a nice slim body, I give him that and he is a brilliant rapper. In the video, you'll see Nicki about to kiss him but I'm sorry, I know its acting but I just couldn't do it.

Funnily, I was reading the Sun's cover on the steamy video and it was quite interesting because Nicki sees Lil Wayne as her boss, mentor and like a brother so when it came to the part when they're about to kiss, she said it was quite weird. She also explained that Lil Wayne was afraid to touch her in certain parts because being from the South, he's quite a gentleman about these things. You can read the full story here: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/4871474/nicki-minaj-gets-steamy-with-lil-wayne-in-high-school-video.html

So, in conclusion the video to 'High School' is brilliant and Lil Wayne's face just makes me laugh - bless him. They play lovers well in this and you can also tell they were having fun especially at the end. Watch the video on YouTube by clicking the link below:

Iggy Who?

I've been sent quite a few emails about Australian hip hop artist Iggy Azalea (real name Amethyst Amelia Kelly) regarding her debut single 'Work'. Personally, I don't like the song too tough - it has unnecessary swearing that isn't really needed (I know rap and hip hop music usually has swearing but doesn't necessary have to be that way - bring back conscious rap like Common and Mos Def I say), she kinda seems like a wannabe to me and I don't think it's really hip hop at all in the normal sense of hip hop but each to their own. I do however like the video which shows her struggle through the Australian desert to the top in Hollywood - bit of a long way though seeing as the US is on the other side of the world unless you go right from Australia rather than left - lol!

I also like the Louboutin shoes she wears (not ideal for the desert though) with its trademark red sole (read my book review on Christian Louboutin's book written by the designer himself about how the red sole came about in The Bite Magazine - http://www.thebitemag.com/issue6/index.html#/40/) and she does have a killer body and wear some wicked outfits - cow! It's ok, I'm not hating on her.

So in the email I was sent today, it shows the behind the scenes of how her video to 'Work' was made. We are introduced to her body double - mini Iggy (i.e. Mini Me) who assist us through the video making while big Iggy is busy filming. Mini Iggy is admittedly quite sweet but dressed in some clothes beyond her age. You also find out in the video why Iggy wears a lot of Christian Louboutin - simply because she refers to the designer's shoes a lot in the video.

I guess watching the video, Iggy does speak some truths about what some women do to reach the top in Hollywood - some of which comes back to haunt them sooner or later in life. So in ethics it's great to tell your story but overall I still don't like the song too tough.

Jimi Hendrix's People, Hell and Angels

It's been 40 years since legendary guitarist Jimi Henrix's joined the 27 club (a lot of legendary artists unfortunately died at the age of 27 like Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison) but yet he still keeps the blues alive beyond the grave.

We have been treated to yet another recording of the amazing Jimi Hendrix brought to us by Experience Hendrix LLC and Sony Commercial Music Group. People, Hell & Angels is an essential album that premiere previously unreleased studio recordings completed by the legendary hero.

The story goes that Jimi was restless and eager to develop new material with old friends and new ensembles so he developed recordings outside of the Jimi Henrix Experience trio which had not been released until now. The album has twelve recordings of unique sounds and styles that present some of the finest Jimi Hendrix guitar work ever heard. With names like Buffalo Springfield’s Stephen Stills, drummer Buddy Miles and Billy Cox, whom Hendrix served with in the 101st US Army Airborne and later worked the famed R&B 'chitlin circuit', you're sure to have an electrifying album.

People, Hell & Angels contains amazing tracks such as ‘Earth Blues’, ‘Somewhere’, ‘Hear My Train A Coming’ and ‘Bleeding Heart’. It's out now (you've probably seen it dotted around the internet) as well as a Classic Rock Presents Collector's Edition that became available yesterday - 1st April 2013. Both can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon.

Charlie Brown Is On His Way

I don't know if you've heard of new urban pop singer Charlie Brown but he's really looking to be the name to watch out for in 2013. I was sent some information on the singer and thought he looked quite interesting. Turns out that his debut single 'Dependency' featuring Yungen and Ms D caught the attention of Rich Castillo who was previously involved in N-Dubz's career and is now A&R at AATW Records. Apparently Rich was following Charlie for years and was waiting for the right moment to approach him. So as soon as that opportunity came into fruitation, Rich called Charlie at 1am in the morning and the next day Charlie Brown was signed to the AATW/Universal label.

Before Charlie was snapped up, he's been hiding behind the scene writing songs for the likes of Wiley, Jay Sean and The Script as well as working alongside some of the high profile hitmakers like Fraser T Smith (Adele, Ellie Goulding), RedOne (Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj) and FutureCat (Lilly Allen, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks). But in the back of his mind, he has always wanted to be upfront singing his own songs so that's what he did and now he has the opportunity to show the world what he is made of.

His new single 'On My Way' is an uplighting track written by our Charlie after a transitional period in his life. We all know about those moment, don't we? He says he couldn't find a song on his iPod to lift his mood so he wrote his own song. The lyrics 'You might work but I work harder / You might fight but I fight smarter / Might not be on top of the world, but hey, I’m on my way” is inspiring but yet understated.

I reckon our Charlie is going to do really well this year and some of the music medium even agree. OMG Yahoo said, “Charlie Brown is going to be HUGE in 2013. Mark our words!” and Daily Star Playlist claims, “After years spent flirting with success, Charlie Brown is ready for the big time!”

So watch out for Charlie Brown - I'm sure you're going to hear a lot more!

Trousersnake Is Back! Yay!!!

I'm so glad Justin Timberlake is back doing music. After losing him to the movies for a good number of years, our beloved JT is finally back. I loved him in the films 'In Time', 'Friends With Benefits' and 'Bad Teacher'. When he was humping Cameron Diaz in his clothes in  'Bad Teacher' that really creased me up. He looked so cute and lovable in his glasses. And since he got married to Jessica Biel, he seems so  mellow and settled. I think family life is going to suit him well.

Anyway, as you well know JT is back with a new album The 20/20 Experience from which we already have 'Suit & Tie' and 'Mirrors'. He seems to have taken on the old-time gentleman style of the Clark Gable age which I think really work and his hair is so silky and neat. Yes, as you may have guessed by now, I have a soft spot for JT and think he is brilliant.

Since he started out with N-Sync and then went solo, Justin has really matured musically and as an actor. His voice is phenomenal (check out his high notes) and I remember having his album 'Justified' once which for the life of me I do not know where it has gone. Maybe it was stolen when someone broke into my car some years ago - I was really peed off at the time. Ah well, I could always get another copy.

Well, here's to the success of Justin Timberlake with his new album and let's pray we'll hear many many more as well as seeing him in more films.

Unusual Lamps

Now we all know that ice is used for cooling down drinks on a blazing hot day or in alcoholic beverages like rum and coke, gin and tonic or Disaronno with cranberry juice or coke. But imagine having a modern glass ice cube as a table lamp!

When I came across this table lamp, I thought it was so cool. From my last post, you know I love unusual art deco items and this one is no exception. Along with the Habitat Ribbon Mini Table Lamp, I would definitely have this one as well in my living room. But be careful that one or more of friends don't mistake it for an actual glass with ice in it - lol! Or if they do realise straight away, they'll be talking about it for weeks to come.

The modern glass ice cube touch lamp is seated on a chrome base. To turn it on, you simply touch the metal base - cool eh? So there's no more trying to find the switch at night. We don't want you falling over something and hurting yourself while you're trying to find the damn switch, do we? And you know the golden rule about not touching the bulb with your bare hand or fingers or you'll be get burnt otherwise.

This fascinating lamp has four settings - off, a low level light for mood lighting, a medium level light for general lighting and a high level light which is the brightest setting to create an intense pool of light. These table lamps are absolutely brilliant as complementary lighting and are perfect to light up dull corners.

This cute tortoise won't be going nowhere fast especially sat in your living room or the kids' room. The brightly coloured Green Tiffany Tortoise Lamp, also available in pink and purple, is handmade from leaded American tiffany glass supported on an antique bronze base and designed for indoor use.

Do you dream in colours? This amazing Colour Changing LED Mood Cube will add atmosphere and ambience almost anywhere in an instant. Not only do they glow and change colour (blue, dusky pink, red, purple and white) gently so you can have hours and hours of fun of lighting display but it will also allow you to lock the glow on a specific colour. The cube has no wires or plugs so it will make a wonderful mood light for the bedtoom, bathroom or as an awesome lighting display in the garden for an evening summer party. Summer is coming so why not?

You won't have to travel to the Himalayas to grab a piece of the country. The Natural Therapeutic Himalayan Salt Lamp may not look much like rocks but has actually been designed for our health and well-being. Well fancy that? This hand-crafted lamp on a wooden base is suitable for a small bedroom, living room or office and wait for it.... contains a piece of Himalayan salt in its natural form. So you need some peace in your life, this lamp may be your answer. Try it out! You never know, you may be living in health, peace and harmony in no time.

Art Deco Lamps - The One For Me

When I was much younger, I wanted to be an architect. Although I still find old buildings fascinating, it's the modern ones that really grabs my attention. I just love the creativity that goes into each building and the way the shapes and lines are manipulated. For instance the Blue Fin Building in Southwark, London is amazing. Designed in a shape of a shark's fin, it definitely stands out overlooking the River Thames.

The Shard in London Bridge is another fascinating building that intrigues me -  I just love the way it has been designed - but you won't catch me riding the escalator to the top floor to look out at the view over London (no siree). I'm not scared of heights but it's not something I would want to do. I did that with the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada and the Empire State Building in New York, USA and that was enough for me. And while we're on the subject, what is all this fascination with having the tallest building in the world?

Anyway, on a much smaller scale, with my interest in architect and sculpture, I get fascinated by unusual art deco. Today, I came across this awesome item (on the left) that would look absolutely beautiful in my place (and may look in yours as well if you have the same interest). It's the Habitat Ribbon Mini Table Lamp in Gunmetal Grey with Soft glow Nightlight. It is so awesome!

The table lamp is inspired by the shapes created when a ribbon is in movement which I think is an amazing subject to draw inspiration from. This particular design, an exploration of origami and paper crafts, was created by Claire Norcross, an award-winning designer specialising in lighting for Habitat. With its expertly crafted curves and sleek lines with gunmetal chromed steel and metal base, this lamp will be the life of the party in my place :o)
